I saw the black and white image this painting is based on posted on Facebook – I didn’t really know the man but I was instantly drawn to the photo and wanted to paint it. I messaged him for permission, which he granted, and thoroughly enjoyed taking artistic license with the image to end up with this painting. I love turning a black and white image into a colored painting because you have no restrictions…your pallet can be whatever you want it to be. I loved the juxtaposition of using the cool, cold colors in the sky, his coat and the shadows against the warmer colors of his skin, hair and buildings in the background.
