This piece was created for, and accepted into, my first exhibition called Beyond Gender:The Future of Being Human, which opened on June 22, 2023 in New York City. The exhibition was a collaborative effort to answer the question: What would society look like if people were allowed to present themselves without regard to gender roles?
Bridges depicts my interpretation of how society has stereo typically designated two genders – male (blue) and female (pink). However, the reality is that within these gender designations there are variations, complexities, and uniqueness’s that are often unacknowledged. Qualities that are actually quite bright, beautiful, and valid.
In the future, bridging the gap that separates what “is” from what could be will be much more fluid and accessible. But, like anyone who is growing and evolving (now or in the future), there will be times of darkness and struggle that, when successfully navigated, will emerge into a place that is safe, authentic, and easily redefined.
