oil and acrylic on canvas with painted canvas formed over styrofoam and attached
Sometimes I see my surroundings as if I were viewing them through a camera lens, distortions and all.
This painting is an architectural abstraction of the courtyard at the deYoung Museum in San Fransisco. I loved how my brain saw lines, angles, shapes and shades and I knew it would be fun to paint.
At first I tried painting the boulder that people were sitting on, but then I though how fun it would be to use styrofoam covered with formed and painted canvas to make them actually 3- dimensional instead of just painting them to look that way.
This is also one of my first experiments in combining both brushwork in oil paint and poured painting in acrylic.
My hope is that the viewer will feel the openness and grandeur of the courtyard of the museum, a place that has always held such a special place in my life.
