First We, Then I, Now Us was inspired by a visit to a friends new home. I’ve known her for many years and have met her husband and 3 grown children.
What inspired me was the way these 5 people, all busy with their own individual lives, were able to contain the chaos of their separate lives and create something harmonious and beautiful together.
I’ve tried to create the same feeling with this painting. It contains many written messages (like “blood is thicker than water” “there’s no place like home”), some of which can be seen and some not. It is meant for people who understand what beauty can come out of such chaos when love is the glue holding their lives together.
